Bamboocloset talks with newlywed designer Ciara Marasigan-Serumgard, whose works are available in our jewelry section under her main line, Ciara Creates and her luxury line, Crystal Fantaisie.
1. What inspires you in designing your pieces?
I am inspired by everything I experience : galleries, travels, sinful desserts, and a great love as well! Global trends alone do not dictate my design direction but certainly influence me the way other experiences do. The visions I have are celebrations of how I experience the world.
2. Do you have a fave material or gemstone?
Gemstones, Corals, Pearls, Wood, and Crystals on wire
3. Who are your style icons?
Queen Elizabeth. Her severity shows us how her rich fabrics and jewels conveyed incredible wealth, power, and prestige. She definitely dressed the part.Coco Chanel for her take on the chic, elegant modern woman.
4. Do you have design icons?
Christian Dior, the designer behind luxurious provocation.
5. What keeps you going as a jewelry designer?
Creativity allows us to break free from patterns and traditions to give birth to a creature truly new. As a jewelry designer, my creativity is communicated in the concept behind my work, and the theory behind my choice of hues. A great deal of us artists think in pictures so the challenge is how to get to execute our great imagery. Communicating my vision is precisely my passion. Victoire de Castellane of Dior's conceptual creativity serves as my inspiration. The eccentric-luxurious eloquence in her work
is ever refreshing.
6. Do you have a new collection in the works? Tell us a bit about it.
Just finished the Mercuri collection, my interpretation of the techno-futuristic fetish. A lot of black onyx and metallic gems and crystals. Currently working on Spring-Summer 2008, The Genesis Series will be all about emerald and gold inspired by the fertility and abundance of the earth. Since my wedding, I've been working with more and more brides and it has been very exciting to create something new for each one. I've been inspired by the colors of autumn, and incorporated them in a crystal hairpiece. I'm sure a whole collection will spring out from this.
